Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Icecapade Frozen Treats’ journey began with our late-night movie rendezvous. During our movie intermissions we would make it a sport to run out to get our favorite ice cream. After a number of these ice cream binges, we realized we packed on a few pounds. So, we decided to make a change. Dionne recalled some of her childhood memories with her grandmother, making natural juices and homemade ice pops. Together we decided to recreate her grandmother’s recipes for family & friends. Through positive feedback and healthy encouragement, we were convinced by our support circle to take our gifts to the next level. This led us to serving the community through our sidewalk kiosk, then eventually a brick and mortar. Now, we have partnered with local retailers as well as expanded into catering, wholesale and shipping.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In business, no matter how successful one may be there will be challenges. One challenge for us was navigating the opening of our brick & mortar during the covid pandemic, which caused us to quickly pivot during the infancy of our business. Brand awareness is another hurdle we had to cross. In order to build our brand, we had to take a “boots on the ground” approach by networking, attending events and selling our business to the community.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Overall, we enjoy the growth in the city of Jacksonville. Although, it is a big city that offers lots of diversity, it still seems to maintain its hometown feel as each neighborhood has its own tight-knit community.
The missed opportunities and untapped potential with the downtown & riverfront locations is what we least like about our city. However, there is potential for development.
