Today we’d like to introduce you to Pallis Rupinta.
Hi Pallis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started tattooing while i was in college, then took a break from college to take on an apprenticeship. I got screwed over in the position so i went back to college to only return to tattooing 6months later. I worked my first shop in a very slow area & had an opportunity to guest spot in orange park. I would drive 45min bc it was worth the drive. 3 yrs later i had the opportunity to be a partner in a new shop that my coworkers started in which we were going through a non compete lawsuit months later. After securing that victory i worked at that shop for 6 yrs. After having disagreements w/ the owner, i decided to start my own shop Diamond Tip Tattoo & now on my 10th year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No definitely not. I went tgrough 2 apprenticeships & the 2nd one that shop had me quit my job so i can start working & to find out that he hired another artist to fill my spot. Ive also struggled to make ends meet as i was going through college from ’07-’10. Upon opening a new shop & being a partner, we were sued by the previous shop for non compete. We won after thousands of dollars & months of stress. Once i opened up my shop in ’16, i didnt realize that my business was not in a proper zoning area so i had to meet w/ the township to essentially be approved to be there. A very stressful time as i already built up shop just to be yold that i may have to relocate.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Im an artist first, then a tattoo artist 2nd. I recvd an art scholarship for fine arts before getting into tattooing. I mainly enjoy anything w/ details like realism, color realism. I do enjoy other styles as i picked it up from the years of me tattooing. Id like to think im known for my realistic/detailed pieces & fine lines. Im proud of many things. I become self made from my passion w/ art & have gotten into a few world wide publications. Ive also been acknowledged by me favorite rap group essentially from the magazine publication i was in back in ’09. Ive been filmed for a coca cola documentary for a short film. Ive been on a local news for tattooing a local news reporter. Ive reached my goal of attaining my dreamcar & a dream house. Bc of that im slowly getting into interior designing & a investment property business. Im not sure, i guess just the drive to further myself & my craft & to try & be better every year no matter how long ive been doing this for.
