Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr Joshua Dunsky.
Hi Dr Joshua, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been in practice since 1999, but scoliosis found me long before it became my specialty.
Early in my career, I saw what most clinicians see—patients being told to watch and wait, brace until it fails, or prepare for surgery. What I didn’t see were answers. Outcomes were inconsistent, progression was poorly explained, and families were left anxious and confused. That never sat right with me.
So I started digging deeper—beyond curves and Cobb angles—into why scoliosis progresses. Genetics. Growth patterns. Hormones. Neuro-muscular control. Bone density. Biomechanics. I learned quickly that scoliosis isn’t just a curved spine—it’s a multi-system condition, and treating it like a simple orthopedic problem was why so many people were failing.
By the mid-2000s, results began to change—dramatically. Not just symptom improvement, but measurable changes in function, stability, and progression risk. In 2006, I began opening multiple specialty clinics focused specifically on complex spinal conditions, refining a systems-based, non-surgical model that actually worked in the real world.
Over time, other doctors took notice. What started as clinical curiosity turned into mentorship, training, and eventually teaching other doctors how to evaluate, manage, and treat spinal degeneration more intelligently and more effectively.
Today, my work spans patient care, multi-clinic operations, and professional training—helping both families and clinicians move past outdated models and toward a more precise, personalized approach to spinal and scoliosis care.
This isn’t theory for me. It’s been 26 years of clinical trial, error, refinement—and results.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the hardest parts of this journey has always been the parents.
Sitting across from a mother or father who’s just been told their child has scoliosis—and hearing the fear in their voice—“Is this going to get worse?” “Did I miss something?” “Will my child need surgery?”—that never gets easier.
Early on, I realized how broken the system felt from a parent’s perspective. Families were often told to wait, even while their child was growing rapidly. Or they were handed a brace with little explanation, little support, and no real discussion of what success actually looked like. Parents were left watching, worrying, and second-guessing every decision.
I struggled with that. I struggled with knowing that time mattered—and that waiting could mean losing options.
There were nights I replayed cases in my head. Kids I wished I’d seen earlier. Curves that progressed faster than anyone expected. Parents who trusted me and were terrified of making the wrong choice for their child. That responsibility is heavy—and it should be.
Those moments are what pushed me to keep going deeper. To look beyond the X-ray. To understand growth patterns, nervous system control, hormones, bone health—because parents deserve more than “let’s see what happens.” They deserve a plan.
I’ve also seen the other side—the relief when a parent realizes there are options. When they understand what’s happening in their child’s body. When fear turns into clarity and action. Watching a child stand taller, move better, regain confidence—that’s why I’ve stayed in this work.
Everything I’ve built—every clinic, every protocol, every training program—started with one question:
If this were my child, what would I want to know… and what would I want done?
That question still guides everything I do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our organization is a specialty spine practice dedicated to scoliosis and complex spinal conditions in both children and adults. This isn’t a side service for us—it’s what we’re known for.
We specialize in non-surgical scoliosis management and advanced spine care, focusing on why a condition is progressing, not just what it looks like on X-ray. Our approach looks beyond the curve to the systems that drive change—growth patterns, biomechanics, neuromuscular control, bone health, and nervous system function—so care can be proactive and personalized.
Families often come to us after being told to “wait and watch” or when they feel stuck between bracing and surgery. We’re known for bringing clarity, strategy, and real options back into that conversation.
What sets us apart is precision and education. We don’t use one-size-fits-all protocols. We take the time to explain what’s happening, what matters most, and what can realistically be done—so parents can make confident decisions.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is trust. Parents trust us with their children, adults trust us with complex cases, and other doctors trust our systems enough to train with us.
At the end of the day, our mission is simple: meet patients earlier, think deeper, and help prevent unnecessary progression and surgery whenever possible.
What are your plans for the future?
Our vision is to redefine how scoliosis and complex spinal conditions are understood and treated—by replacing “wait and see” with early insight, precise care, and better outcomes.
We aim to build a national network of highly trained practitioners and specialty centers that deliver consistent, non-surgical scoliosis care rooted in science, education, and clinical integrity. As we expand beyond Boston and Jacksonville into new regions across the country, our commitment remains the same: to meet patients earlier, think deeper, and preserve options that too many families are told they don’t have.
Growth, for us, is not about scale alone—it’s about access, excellence, and impact.
