Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Plotz.
Hi Lacey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I wanted to take up a hobby and in 2017 I was browsing Pinterest and realized I had an affinity with dreamy, light colored photographs. I loved the way they looked and I wanted to create something similar. I asked my dad for a camera that Christmas and so began my love for photography. It was a hobby for a few years, I never thought I’d make a business out of it until my daughter was born and I left my job to be a stay at home mommy. After that I started taking photography courses and practicing until I felt good enough to start making some income from it. It was meant to be something that brought in a little extra income here and there and turned into a blessing from above. It’s allowed me the freedom to bless our family with paying off medical debt from both of our children’s birth and other debts, pay a bill or two each month and treat my kids to their favorite chick fila every few weeks. Because it started out as a hobby, it doesn’t feel like going to work. I get excited every time I get to go capture precious memories for my clients. It still feels exhilarating to be able to love the work that I do. Im still very much part time in the work I do and until both of my children are in school, I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’ve come this far just by sharing how much I love what I do. I’ve built genuine relationships with clients and I’m growing each year because the people I meet trust me and tell others about me. While I use social media marketing for certain reasons, such as boosting my minis, most of my clients have come from word of mouth or are returning clients which means the absolute world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part! I made this a business in 2021 and I’ve grown a little each year and I’ve learned more each year. The goal for me is to have gained more knowledge and grow even just a little than I did the year before. Slow and steady wins the race. My most important job is being a good mommy, so I’m ok with a slow but steady growth pattern. I’d say my biggest challenge is that I’m unable to put the amount of time that I’d like to into this business without sacrificing time with my family. I have a lot of ideas and things I’d like to accomplish and sometimes that can be frustrating when I have to limit myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer, specializing in family photography. I do couples, weddings, maternity, events and other types of photography as well. I’m most proud of the joy I feel when doing my job and I think that’s what helps set me apart. I genuinely care about every clients story and I get complimented most on how I made my clients feel comfortable and relaxed during their photoshoot. I’m also a firm believer in educating and sharing as much as I can with my clients so that they are prepared for when the day arrives and they don’t feel anxious or have too many questions about what to expect.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Oh gosh that’s a tough question. Probably the times when all of my family gathered at my grandmas house. You don’t realize how special those times were until you get older. I also had some of the best times in youth group and then my favorite memory was when I met my husband at a wedding when we were just 15/16 years old.
