Inspiring Conversations with Sarah Eklund of Sarah Eklund Interiors & 30A Creative Coverings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Eklund.

Hi sarah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I was drawn to the art of creating beautiful spaces. I spent countless evenings with my mother rearranging rooms in our home, discovering how thoughtful placement and attention to detail could completely transform the way a space felt. During the holidays, I delighted in draping garland along the staircase and designing elegant centerpieces for our dining table—small yet meaningful moments that quietly shaped my love for interiors.

As I grew older, that passion deepened into a lasting fascination with interior design and architecture. Over the course of my 22-year marriage, my husband and I have moved many times, completing multiple new builds and remodels along the way. Through these experiences, I discovered a particular love for new construction—creating something extraordinary from the very first lines on paper and watching it come to life in real space.

I am inspired by the balance of beauty and function and find immense joy in bringing creative ideas to life in a way that enhances how people live. This passion led me to establish my own interior design firm nearly eight years ago. Four years later, I expanded my work to include a window coverings business, recognizing how essential they are in completing a home. The two disciplines work seamlessly together, allowing me to design spaces that feel thoughtful, cohesive, and finished.

I value close collaboration with my clients and take great pride in bringing their visions to fruition. My goal is always the same: to create timeless, livable spaces—and to consistently exceed expectations.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most creative and entrepreneurial paths, it has not been entirely smooth—and I believe that’s where the greatest growth happens. Building a design business requires balancing creativity with logistics, relationships, and constant problem-solving. I’ve navigated everything from evolving budgets and timelines to the realities of construction delays and the challenge of building trust with clients in an industry where every detail matters.

There were moments early on that required resilience—learning to advocate for my vision, refining my processes, and growing confident in my expertise. Each challenge, however, strengthened my approach and sharpened my understanding of both design and business. Those experiences ultimately shaped the thoughtful, collaborative, and solutions-driven way I work today.

We’ve been impressed with Sarah Eklund Interiors & 30A Creative Coverings, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is rooted in the belief that a home should be both beautiful and deeply livable—a true sanctuary. I specialize in new construction and remodels, where I’m able to collaborate from the earliest stages, shaping spaces with intention from the ground up. At the same time, I love furnishing homes and transforming them into places that feel layered, warm, and personal, ensuring they truly reflect the people who live there.

I’m known for my highly collaborative approach and for taking the time to truly listen. Understanding my clients’ dreams, goals, and daily rhythms allows me to translate their vision into thoughtful, well-executed design. I pride myself on doing exactly what I say I will do—often going above and beyond—and on building lasting trust through clear communication, attention to detail, and follow-through.

What sets my brand apart is the depth and quality of the offerings I provide. I work with many exceptional brands and lines that I truly love and trust, allowing me to curate every layer of a home with intention. I have a particular passion for lighting design and offer stunning lighting collections that elevate a space both functionally and aesthetically. This same thoughtful approach extends to rugs, custom furniture, art, and accessories—bringing together texture, pattern, and personality to create interiors that feel cohesive, collected, and visually compelling.

What I want readers to know most is that my work is personal. Every project is approached with care, intention, and a commitment to creating spaces that not only look beautiful, but genuinely enhance the way my clients live.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe there are shortcuts in life or in business. Every step of my journey has been built on hard work, consistency, and a willingness to prove myself—particularly in the construction industry, where being a woman in a male-dominated field required both confidence and perseverance.

I wouldn’t say my success has come from luck as much as it has come from being prepared when opportunities presented themselves. I’ve been fortunate to be trusted with meaningful projects that allowed me to demonstrate my capabilities, and each experience has built upon the last. Those moments of opportunity, paired with dedication and resilience, are what have ultimately shaped my career and business today.
