Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After being downsized by a corporation I was working for in Columbus, OH, I decided I didn’t want back in the corporate world. I was living near a Flowerama in Columbus and was intriqued by the number of customers and the uniqueness of the business model. I decided to open a Flowerama in Jacksonville in 1997 and have been here ever since.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing in life is “smooth.” Had a lot of ups and downs over the years, but the last 10 years have been excellent. Having the right people is the key. We initially had turnover issues and staffing shortages, but again, that’s not a problem these days.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Flowerama is quite unique in the floral industry. We are open from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday and open from 9:00 to 7:00 PM Saturday, and 10 to 5 PM Sunday. We only close on Christmas day. We specialize in “affordable elegance” in our flower arrangements. We import flowers through growers in Ecuador and Columbia, with direct shipments from Miami to our store, giving us the freshest flowers around. Also, we sell roses by the dozen on a cash & carry basis. We have five designers on staff to make that arrangement special. We deliver throughout Jacksonville, St. Johns County and Orange Park. We do same day delivery. We maintain a 4.7 rating on Google, with over 600 reviews. If you can’t make it to our store, just order on our website floweramajax.com.
