Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwayne Jackson.
Hi Dwayne , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my career in the mortgage business in 1998, beginning with loan setup. Within six months, I advanced into a loan processor role, which gave me a strong foundation in the lending side of real estate. In the early 2000s, I transitioned into accounting, working for a Fortune 500 paper company for about five to six years. That experience strengthened my understanding of finance, structure, and accountability.
Just before the market crash in 2008, I obtained my mortgage broker’s license. I clearly remember watching the news and receiving emails and phone calls from clients asking if we would still be able to close deals—it was a very uncertain and challenging time. After the crash, I returned to mortgage processing and continued to grow, moving into a junior underwriter role and eventually underwriting loans for high–net-worth clients. Along the way, I had the opportunity to work with three of the top financial institutions in the world.
After learning the mortgage process from start to finish, I decided to expand my impact by obtaining my real estate license in May 2015 and joining EXIT Real Estate Gallery/United Real Estate Gallery as a Realtor. I knew my background in mortgage, finance, and accounting would allow me to be a true asset to my clients, my family, and my community. In 2020, I earned my broker’s license, and by May 2026, I will have 11 years of experience as both a listing and buyer’s agent.
I’m truly grateful for every lesson, challenge, and opportunity along the way, as each step has shaped the professional I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not—it has not been a smooth road. Once you get your license, the real work begins. You have to go out and find customers and convince buyers and sellers that you’re qualified and capable of helping them buy or sell a home.
My first year was especially tough. There was a huge learning curve going from working behind the scenes to being front-facing, having conversations with potential buyers and sellers every day. I had to learn how to prospect, market myself, stay current on different mortgage products, and build strong relationships with key vendors—lenders, title companies, home inspectors, and contractors, just to name a few.
It was challenging, no question, but I was determined to make it work. I stayed consistent, kept learning, and pushed through the discomfort. That determination is what carried me through the early struggles and helped lay the foundation for the career I have today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Licensed Realtor and Broker Associate, and my work is centered on helping people navigate one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives with confidence. I started my real estate career working with investors, which gave me a strong understanding of numbers, strategy, and long-term value. Over time, I became especially passionate about working with first-time homebuyers—educating them on the process, setting realistic expectations, and guiding them through everything from financing to new construction options.
What I’m most known for is taking the time to educate my clients. I don’t believe in rushing decisions or glossing over details. I want my buyers and sellers to understand the “why” behind every step, so they feel empowered and protected throughout the transaction.
What sets me apart is my background and roots. I was born and raised in Northeast Florida, so I know the area, the neighborhoods, and the market on a very personal level. On top of that, my mortgage, finance, and accounting experience allows me to look at transactions from a broader perspective—not just as a Realtor, but as an advisor who understands the full financial picture. That combination of local knowledge and financial expertise is what truly separates me and allows me to better serve my clients.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Staying informed and continuing to learn is a big part of how I do my best, both professionally and personally. I make it a priority to stay on top of what’s happening in the market. When the Federal Reserve meets, I’m paying close attention to any potential rate increases or decreases and how those changes may impact buyers and sellers. I also stay informed on new loan programs and products my preferred lenders are offering, so I can provide the most up-to-date options to my clients.
In addition, I regularly read books, magazines, blogs, and listen to podcasts that focus on finance, investing, and personal growth. Two of my favorite podcasts are Earn Your Leisure and Market Mondays—they do a great job breaking down economic trends and wealth-building strategies in a way that’s practical and easy to understand.
Just as important, I surround myself with peers who are operating at a high level in this business. Learning, sharing experiences, and staying connected with other professionals keeps me sharp and motivated. I also take advantage of ongoing training opportunities through my brokerage and NEFAR to stay current on best practices, market changes, and new tools. Continuous learning is key in this industry, and I’m committed to always improving.
