Exploring Life & Business with Jaclyn Chamberlain of Designwaves LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Chamberlain.

Hi Jaclyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been designing for many years, long before Designwaves ever became official. It started back in high school when I fell in love with architectural drafting and floriculture. That early interest became a true path for me, leading to formal education, industry experience, and years of work across many areas of design. Over the years I’ve designed for family, friends, and clients in many locations — kitchens, baths, feature walls, custom architectural details, landscape designs, artwork, and more.

When my husband and I moved to Florida, the plan was always to build my design business here. I’ve always loved the coast and coastal design, so it felt like the perfect place for my work. But like many people, things started slowly — impacted by COVID and then by a long health setback. Once I recovered and life stabilized, I was finally able to give Designwaves the full attention and energy it deserved.

Since then, the business has grown steadily and naturally through word of mouth. My work now spans multiple states, and I’ve built a niche creating calm, coastal-inspired spaces that feel both elevated and functional. My designs are meant to support the well-being of my clients — bringing joy, comfort, and ease, including for those with mobility or accessibility needs. My husband Ben also collaborates with me on the build side of our projects, and will be stepping into a larger creative role as our business continues to grow. Every project is created specifically for the client, with careful listening and a focus on making their dream vision a reality.

Today, Designwaves is evolving beyond interior architecture and design. We’re expanding into transforming full, exclusive properties — homes that are completely reimagined with designer-level detail, custom craftsmanship, and a cohesive coastal vision from the inside out. These will be one-of-a-kind properties you simply won’t find anywhere else: highly curated, thoughtfully designed, and elevated far beyond a standard “flip.” Every step of this new direction comes from following what I genuinely love to do — creating spaces that feel inspiring, fresh, and intentional.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. COVID slowed everything down, and then I had a long health setback that forced me to put things into slow motion. Starting over in a new state came with its own challenges too. But honestly, each hard thing gave me more clarity and has created a better foundation to make the business stronger in the long run. It taught me resilience, and I’m grateful for where it led.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Designwaves LLC is a full-service interior architecture and design studio specializing in calm, coastal-inspired spaces with a clean, elevated feel. I focus on creating homes that are not only stunning, but intentionally designed to support comfort, function, and well-being.

I’m known for detailed space planning, custom architectural features, and creating one-of-a-kind designs that feel both livable and refined. What sets Designwaves apart is the level of personalization and craftsmanship behind every project — every space is thoughtfully designed specifically for that client. We also offer custom builds and specialty fabrication, allowing us to bring unique pieces and architectural details to life.

As we continue to grow, Designwaves is expanding into transforming full exclusive properties — homes reimagined with designer-level detail, custom craftsmanship, and a cohesive coastal vision from the inside out. I’m proud to bring a fresh, intentional approach to coastal living, and to create spaces that truly feel like home.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When I think of a mentor, I think of someone who fully takes you under their wing — and I’ve never really had that. I’ve been influenced by a few wonderful people along the way: my floral design mentor Violet, who taught me everything she knew; my dad, who introduced me to AutoCAD and offers occasional guidance from his own business experience; and several inspiring designers and educators I’ve learned from over the years. But overall, most of my growth has come from figuring things out on my own — through hands-on experience, research, continuous learning, and a lot of trial and error. I also have a very clear vision for the kind of beautiful, successful company I want to build, and that determination has guided me more than anything else. My advice is to stay curious, seek inspiration wherever you can, and trust that you can build something meaningful even without a traditional mentor.
