Daily Inspiration: Meet Corrie Garnet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corrie Garnet.

Hi Corrie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was first introduced to massage therapy as a child when my father, who is a carpenter by trade, decided to study massage. I have always enjoyed giving and receiving a variety of bodywork modalities and have been blessed to have many massage therapist friends throughout my life to trade with. As an adult, I have many years of experience in the healthcare field. I am passionate about helping others achieve improved health and love to assist people in feeling better physically as well as mentally.

After more than a decade of working with birthing women, I graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2005 with a BA in Human Services and a minor in psychology. I obtained certification as a level 1 Reiki practitioner in 2006 and became a nurse in 2009. Most recently, I attended training and earned my certification in Ashiatsu Deepfeet Bar Therapy. In my pursuit of a career in the nursing profession I was required to enroll in several anatomy and physiology courses which led me to apprentice with Lisa Logan, LMT in Melrose, Florida and I obtained my Florida massage license in 2018.

I am thrilled to be practicing Ashiatsu deep tissue massage for more than two years now! It is very gratifying to see clients get off my massage table and exclaim how much their posture and range of motion has improved! It is truly a blessing to be able to help people get out of pain which can be a vicious cycle of stress, tension and a holding pattern in the muscles. Ashiatsu is the most luxurious deep tissue massage therapy, it relaxes the spine and smooths bundled nerves.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my biggest setbacks happened in March when I moved my office to it’s current location on North Tenth St and I had a very difficult time verifying to Google that I am the owner of my business and the process took six weeks! After I was verified things were wonderful for about one week when all of a sudden I was notified via email from Google that my business account was suspended and it was taken down along with all of my 5 star google reviews! That was extremely upsetting! When I researched the issue I found that hundreds of small business owners were complaining because the Google business was suspending accounts and it has a very detrimental effect on small businesses especially. It’s been problematic since AI is in charge of the Google business now. Luckily my issue got resolved within a few days instead of the weeks that Google informed me via email that it could take…

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My massage practice is located in an office building and I have my own private office at 2807 North Tenth St in Saint Augustine. I incorporate many massage modalities depending on the individual needs of my clients, I use a mix of Reiki, Thai, Swedish, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point, and Sports massage. However, I specialize in deep tissue Ashiatsu massage where I am able to stand on the table and use my feet to massage clients. I have a wooden frame attached to the massage table and bamboo bars above my head so that I can have support and easily apply as little or as much pressure as required by my client(s). I also use hot towels, hot stones as well as cupping and CBD oil for all my massage work. I strive to get my clients completely relaxed during a massage session so that they may unwind mentally as well as physically.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see massage therapy, especially Ashiatsu massage growing exponentially as more people discover the incredible benefits and experience the improved results of Ashiatsu massage! As a registered nurse who worked in hospitals for more than three years during Covid, I believe many patients have lost a lot of confidence in our failing health care system that is absolutely corrupt with greed. More and more people are searching for real health results not just treating symptoms with addictive treatments that have many more unwanted side effects. The effects of massage are totally beneficial, free of harmful side effects!
