Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam McIntyre.
Hi Adam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a high school band director for 20 years before deciding it was time for a new chapter. I’ve always loved fishing, but for a long time I was hesitant to turn my escape into my profession. Eventually, though, the idea of working on the water as a charter boat captain — doing what I love while earning a living — was too appealing to resist.
Before starting my own business, I got my start in maritime work as a SeaTow captain for SeaTow St. Augustine. That experience was a lot of fun and taught me a great deal about life on the water, but I knew I wanted more. So, I took the plunge and launched my own charter fishing company, MacDaddy Charters. Today, I run offshore fishing trips for both visitors and locals. It’s hard work, but incredibly rewarding — I get to share my passion for the ocean and fishing with people every day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
LOL, no! It has been anything but smooth. When I have back-to-back charters and little things break on the boat, the last thing I want to do is go home from work and fix something on the boat. But to stay safe it must me done so I do it. Additionally, salt water is actively trying to destroy a boat at all times. The persistent attacks through salt water corrosion require constant vigil to guard against. Foul weather is also something all offshore captains must deal with and in my case it manifests itself through cancelled trips. If the weather presents unsafe conditions we simply cannot go through with the trip. What a lot of folks don’t understand is that sunshine and no clouds doesn’t mean that the offshore conditions are hospitable. Our biggest enemy is wind. If the wind is whipping it creates large waves that will make the trip uncomfortable at best and unsafe at worst. Always trust your captain for a go/no go recommendation when it comes to your trip.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
MacDaddy Charters LLC was formed in 2022. It is a small family business specializing in offshore fishing charters for up to 4 people at a time. We frequently target both fish for table fare and fish for sport. My goal is to get my customers something delicious to eat and something fun to fight that may end up being released, like a shark. I’m most proud of our excellent online reviews and our commitment to transparency and honesty. I’m not out to just make a buck. I realize that the money spent on a fishing charter is a significant investment and I treat it accordingly by giving my best on every trip.
MacDaddy Charters offers 4, 6, 8, and 10 hour offshore fishing charters mostly bottom fishing but occasionally trolling for pelagic species which can be a real thrill. All fishing gear, bait and licenses are included in the trip price. We also offer sight seeing tours including St Augustine Nights of Lights tour by boat. This is the best way to view the Lights as you skip all the gridlock traffic on the roads.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue to build the MacDaddy brand into a trusted source for quality fishing. With a reputation for treating people right, we have made hundreds of happy clients.
