Check Out Susan Towler’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Towler.

Hi susan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started The Barking Lot in 2005 as I was retiring from the Air Force reserves in 2006. I had a pet sitting business called Critter Sitters which I combined under The Barking Lot licensee for ease of compliance. I purchased a 1962 concrete block building which has evolved nicely over the years. I started Critter Sitters in 2004 and opened the doors to The Barking Lot in 2006, I am still boarding, doing doggie day care and pet sitting locally.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I hit a couple bumps along the way. But I am still here. As a service provider,, we are the first business to get stopped, especially during COVID when everyone worked from home. WIth help from the SBA, I survived COVID.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I served in the US Air Force from 1983 till 2006. I enlisted for active duty in 1983, My first duty station was at Peterson AFB in CO Springs CO. I got accepted to Officer Training School in 1985. I ultimately retired as a reservist from Moody AFB in Valdosta GA as an IMA reservist which is a specialized reserve program where you are assigned against an active duty slot. I retired as a Services Commander.

What matters most to you?
Contentment. I am 65 years old. I have a pension and social security. I also have a sanctuary for dogs with medical issues and others who are not adoptable due to a variety of reasons. Much like the island of misfit toys. So, saving animals is a huge part of my life as well as taking care of others animals in their homes or boarding them here or day care.

Pricing:

  • $48 overnight boarding
  • $25 doggie day care
  • $20 to 25 for pet sits
