Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr.Bob Fischer.
Hi Dr.Bob, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a small farming village that practiced an Amish-style, rules-based faith. As a young man, I eventually ran away to Daytona Beach, determined to find freedom on my own terms. After many years of wrestling against God, He won — and that surrender changed everything.
For 35 years, I worked as a business consultant and owned a group of seven restaurants. But eventually, I felt a clear call to Christian ministry — though not in the traditional sense of pastoring a church. That call led me to earn a Ph.D. in psychology, and for the past 13 years I’ve devoted my life to helping people build healthier, more connected relationships through counseling.
Most recently, I earned a second Ph.D. in health, wellness, and nutrition, because I’ve seen firsthand how many relational struggles are deeply tied to physical and emotional well-being.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been smooth. In my mid-twenties, I married and became a father, but just three years later, I lost my wife to a severe psychological illness. I raised my son on my own, and that season shaped me profoundly.
Single fathers are relatively rare, and walking that path gave me a deep appreciation for the vital role both parents play in a child’s life. That experience, though painful, has become one of the most valuable foundations of my counseling work today — helping me to empathize with the struggles and resilience of families facing their own challenges.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about New life counseling center?
At New Life Counseling Center, we take a whole-person approach to healing. There are four key dimensions to effective counseling:
1. Compassionate, empathetic listening.
2. Addressing the body — hormonal, nutritional, and physical health.
3. Exploring and reshaping psychological belief systems, especially those rooted in maladaptive thinking.
4. Supporting the spiritual dimension of a person’s life.
I’m trained and licensed in three of these four areas, which allows me to meet people where they truly are — not just where they think their problem lies. As Bruce Lee famously said, “Be water, my friend.” That phrase captures my philosophy perfectly: to adapt to each client’s unique needs and provide the kind of support that brings lasting change — emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I’m financially independent and could have retired two decades ago, but I still show up every day with the same energy and passion as when I began. That’s because what I do isn’t a job — it’s a calling. Counseling, for me, is a spiritual mission. Helping people heal and rediscover peace in their relationships is the most meaningful work I can imagine.
