Jessica Swint shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
Currently, I am chasing and pursuing learning more about Jesus, his life, and learning who He is. I’m also pursuing to be more grateful for how far God has blessed me to be able to come. For me, reflecting on if I were to not pursue desiring to know Christ and being grateful, I know that I would feel anxious, feel as if I were in burnout mode, and stressed out. What I’ve come to understand is that in pursuing Christ, desiring to know Him, and taking the time to read and study the Bible, that there’s is a peace that comes with it. It’s truly like a book that you’re like ok, I’m going to read one more page and then move on to the next task, but you’ve surpassed your devotion time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Jessica, the founder of Organically Jessica! I founded Organically Jessica in 2016 when I realized that there were limited options for my natural hair that would help my hair to grow and stay moisturized, but that were also completely natural. I went on a journey at 15 to research ingredients that have been known historically to grow hair naturally. This passion led to the creation of Organically Jessica, dedicated to providing chemical-free, effective hair and skin care products using herbs that would heal and nourish holistically. Organically Jessica to me is more than just a brand, being able to talk with customers about their hair and skincare goals is truly everything. Seeing their faces light up when they smell a sample is literally the highlight of my day. Being able to make products that are completely natural, without harsh chemicals, and seeing the results personally and the testimonials from others has shown me the power of seeing things through with God and following His plan even when it doesn’t seem like it’s making any sense.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Wow! I would definitely say my high school Spanish teacher, Mrs. Dortival. She was such an inspiration to me because she always challenged me to work hard and to stay persistent in school. Mrs. Dortival was relentless and very hardworking. She stood boldly in her faith and helped me to see the importance of being bold for Christ and still being able to achieve my goals. Her example showed me then what I understand now as an adult on this journey with Christ.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Wow! This is a great question. For me, I would say that what felt like suffering was just preparation for the provision that God has over my life, and that truly the old saying trouble don’t last always is so true. Something that I think of often when I think about how far God has brought me is that being connected to God is far more greater than being successful in terms of materialistic things. In those times of what felt like suffering, there were times when I felt like similar to Peter afraid to walk on water, because of the waves of life, but it was through Jesus not leaving me where it felt like I was suffering and the winds of life tried to keep me in that fear, that Jesus truly reminded me, that he is always near, and can and will move on our behalf immediately.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A project that I would say I’m committed to, no matter how long it takes, is working to continue to be the best version of myself and allow God to lead. To me being, in tune with who God wants me to be is everything. A question that dawned on me recently was that God is committed to us; how committed are we to him? Through our walk and surrender to His will for our life versus our own?
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I would say yes, to me I’d rather be serving in my purpose rather than being focused on praise from others, because ultimately the validation that matters the most to me is Christ’s and focused on where He wants me to be.
