Felicia Demers of Palm Coast, FL on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Felicia Demers and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Felicia, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? When was the last time you felt true joy?
Honestly, I feel true joy every time I’m behind the camera connecting with my clients — especially during those big moments like weddings or graduation/senior sessions. There’s this rush of gratitude when I look around and realize that something I built from the ground up not only feeds my creativity but literally puts food on my table. It’s such an honor to be trusted with people’s memories and to know that the moments I capture will be cherished forever.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Felicia, the photographer behind Felicia April Photography — where storytelling meets a bit of magic. I specialize in capturing life’s real, beautiful moments — from weddings and couples to milestones that deserve to be remembered forever. What makes my work special is the connection I build with my clients; I want every session to feel like hanging out with an old friend.

This business started as a dream with a camera in hand and a big love for people’s stories… and now, it’s grown into something that lets me document joy for a living!🥰 Right now, I’m working on expanding my brand to bring more intentional, elevated experiences to my clients while keeping that warm, authentic feel that started it all.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When my brother Tommy passed away, it completely changed how I see the world and how I see people. It made me realize just how fragile time is and how deeply meaningful human connection can be. I started to slow down and truly be present, not just in life but behind the camera, too. That experience shaped the way I photograph, especially during weddings and families, because I know how precious those little, in-between moments really are.

That’s why I’m so drawn to candid/documentary styled photography. It’s those unscripted glances, laughs, and touches that end up meaning the most — the moments we don’t even realize we’ll treasure until they’re gone.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It taught me how strong and resilient we truly are. It’s in those moments when everything feels heavy or uncertain that we discover our true strength and what we’re really capable of. When you’re pushed to give 110%.

The moments of suffering and hard times taught me to stay grounded, to be present, and to find beauty even in the imperfect moments.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is my faith, my honesty, and my love for people. Those three things guide pretty much everything I do — how I live, how I work, and how I connect with others. I try to show up with genuine care, stay grounded in truth, and treat everyone with kindness and respect.

At the end of the day, I just want the people around me to feel valued, loved, and seen.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing exactly what I was born to do! Ever since I was a kid, I was obsessed with anything camera-related.
As I got older, people started telling me that photography was just a hobby, not a “real” career. So I tried exploring other paths, thinking maybe I should do what made sense instead of what I really dreamed of.

Eventually, I found my way back to my first love, and I couldn’t be happier. There’s nothing like the feeling of connecting with people, witnessing their most meaningful moments, and knowing that I get to freeze them in time. It’s messy, joyful, unpredictable and I love every moment.
