Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Marshall.
Hi Allison, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music has always been part of who I am. The violin became my voice long before I could express myself with words. Back then, I didn’t realize this instrument would connect me to people during some of the most meaningful moments in their lives.
I started String Theory Music with a simple dream: to create more than beautiful background music. I wanted to build a company focused on people, one that approached every event with heart, intention, and quality. From the very first inquiry to the last note of a performance, my goal has always been to make everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for.
Over time, I’ve been fortunate to gather an incredible team of musicians who share that same vision. Each one brings artistry, professionalism, and empathy to every event. Together, we’ve grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined — a company that exists not just to perform, but to serve, uplift, and celebrate life’s most special moments through music.
We began small, performing at weddings and private events. Over the years, we have become one of the most sought-after ensembles in the region. I now work with a talented team of professional string players who share the same commitment to excellence and creativity. Together, we’ve had the honor of performing at thousands of events across Florida and Georgia. We have received several awards, including The Knot’s Best of Weddings, The Knot Hall of Fame, and WeddingWire’s Couples’ Choice Award.
It has been a journey of faith, hard work, and constant growth. Balancing artistry with running a business is challenging, but I am truly grateful to see how String Theory Music has become a trusted name for timeless, live string music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. But I wouldn’t trade the journey for anything. Starting a small business in the arts means learning to wear many hats and trusting that passion and hard work will eventually come together. I’ve faced times of doubt, canceled events, slow periods, and logistical challenges that come with running something so personal.
But through every challenge, one thing has stayed the same: the people. The brides who pour their hearts into planning, the planners and coordinators who become like family, and the musicians who show up week after week, ready to give their all. They’ve been my reason to keep going, to keep improving, and to keep showing up with excellence even when it’s tough.
The obstacles have shaped how I lead and serve today. They’ve taught me the importance of communication, flexibility, and grace. Each “problem” is an opportunity to show someone how much we care.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At our core, String Theory Music offers live string performances for weddings, private events, and corporate gatherings, but that only scratches the surface of what we do.
What truly sets us apart is how we connect with people. Every event we play is someone’s once-in-a-lifetime moment—a ceremony, a celebration, a milestone—and we take that responsibility seriously. We listen closely, communicate quickly, and anticipate needs before they arise. We adjust in real time to unexpected changes and gauge the mood in each room so that our music always fits the moment perfectly.
I’m most proud of the culture within our team. The musicians I work with are not only incredibly talented; they’re kind, reliable, and deeply invested in creating something special for our clients. There’s a quiet humility in the way we serve—from tuning our instruments before guests arrive to playing that final note just right—and that collective care is what makes String Theory Music unique.
When people tell me, “You made our day feel magical,” or, “You made everything seamless,” that’s the best compliment we could ever receive. Because at the end of the day, our job isn’t just to perform; it’s to help people feel something they’ll never forget.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I would tell anyone starting out, especially in a creative field, to lead with heart first and systems second. The logistics will work themselves out, but how you treat people will define your business more than anything else.
Respond to every email as if it’s the most important one you’ve ever received. Communicate clearly. Show up early. Be flexible. Care about your clients’ experience as much as your own performance. The music matters, but how you deliver it is what people remember.
I also wish I had learned sooner that growth happens when you invite others in. For a long time, I tried to do everything myself. It wasn’t until I began trusting and empowering others that the business truly thrived. Working together and building community are the keys to success.
