Meet Jimmie Major of Jacksonville, FL.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmie Major.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Music has been in my world for as long as I can remember. As a young boy, I often retreated into my bedroom, immersing myself in rhythms and melodies that would lay the foundation for my future. Over the years, I collected hundreds of cassette tapes and CDs, playing them every weekend. I would begin to play different songs and eventually lose myself in their sounds. My mom used to tell me I had a gift with music, but I didn’t quite understand what she meant by that at the time. I just loved listening to music and letting each melody take me somewhere new.

When I turned twenty-two years of age, my sister was graduating from high school and she decided to throw a party to celebrate. She demanded that I would be the DJ for the party and at that time, I’d never done anything like that before. Being an introvert by nature, the idea of standing in front of a crowd was intimidating. But she was very persistent, knowing I had the latest music and believing I could do it. Reluctantly, I agreed. I bought a two-channel mixer, two CD players and I started preparing for the big night.

The day of the party arrived. At first, everything seemed normal. There was a short program, family and friends gathered around, celebrating my sister’s achievement. Then I cranked up the music and suddenly the room was alive! The energy was contagious and everyone was having a great time! Her friends was having so much fun until they started spreading the word to their other friends. Before I knew it, more and more teens kept flooding into the building! Keep in mind, this was before social media was a thing. The fact that so many people showed up in such a short time was unbelievable!

The place was packed, and the party was jumping all night long! We danced, laughed, and created memories that would last a lifetime! When the night ended, everyone talked about it like it was the best party ever! That night ignited something within me which was a burning desire and a dream to become a professional DJ.

Fast forward over twenty years later, here I am with two decades of experience in the DJ entertainment industry, I’ve mastered the art of reading a room—gauging the vibe and maintaining the perfect atmosphere throughout the event. For me, DJing is more than just entertainment, it’s about creating unforgettable moments and meaningful connections. In 2019, I founded “Dream Walking Entertainment” where we offer exceptional DJ, videography, and photography services. Looking back, I’m amazed at how far I’ve come and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It is definitely not a smooth road for me. I’ve had my share of struggles along the way and continue to have struggles as I move forward. But that’s a part of the journey and I would change it for the world. Somethings I could have avoided if I would have known better, but I won’t beat myself up over it. I just learn from it and keep it moving. Some struggles and issues were simple, like having certain procedures in place so I can be more efficient. Then some are harder like financial issues. But the cool thing is once you acknowledge the issues or pain points, you can address it and work toward doing better.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I provide exceptional DJ, videography and photography services. I bring your vision to life with high quality visual content and entertainment that will make your special moments unforgettable.

What are your plans for the future?
My plan for “Dream Walking Entertainment” is expanding the business and potentially hiring other professionals. Whether it’s permanently or contracting. Right now it’s just me, so being in a position to hire people would be a big win. I am busy, but I don’t feel overwhelmed. At the same time, I don’t want to wait until I get to that point.
