Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Wagner.
Hi Alexis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always aspired to become a business owner, fully aware that the path wouldn’t be easy. I’ve also had a strong appreciation for education, which motivated me to pursue my masters degree. At the same time, I’ve long been drawn to the healthcare field and ultimately discovered a true passion for occupational therapy.
My husband and I met during school, where he earned his doctorate in physical therapy. With our complementary roles in rehab, it was a natural fit to bring him on as the physical therapist for the business. When I reflect on where we are today, it’s clear that our practice is constantly evolving. We’re committed to staying current with best practices and continuously learning new techniques to improve patient outcomes.
As a mobile practice, we bring care directly to our clients in the comfort of their homes. I hold various certifications in neurological rehabilitation and aging in place, and I’m currently pursuing a certificate in residential design to further support our clients home environments. My husband is certified in dry needling and is currently working towards his next certification in the selective functional movement assessment. We are especially excited to bring a unique twist to our practice by combining therapy with elements of interior design, creating spaces that truly support healing, function, and independence.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges I have faced is stepping into entrepreneurship with a clinical background. Building a business is a completely different skill set. I had to learning how to grow a therapy practice from the ground up, balancing clinical work with marketing, administrative tasks, insurance credentialing, and understanding the practice laws for two disciplines. There was, and still are, moments of doubt but the challenge has made me resourceful, resilient, and confident in my ability to build something meaningful to share with others.
As you know, we’re big fans of Functional Homes & Bodies, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our business is a mobile physical and occupational therapy practice, allowing us to bring personalized, high quality care directly to our clients homes. We have experience working with individuals across the lifespan and serve a wide range of rehabilitation needs. Our areas of expertise include neurological conditions such as stroke and traumatic brain injury, orthopedic rehab following joint replacement or fractures, chronic pain, balance and fall prevention, post surgical recovery, and aging in place. We provide one on one care that is always tailored to each individual’s goals and needs. What sets us apart from others is we take a root cause approach to therapy, focusing on identifying and addressing the underlying issues rather than treating symptoms. This allows us to provide lasting results, so you’re not stuck in a cycle of temporary relief or unnecessary ongoing treatment.
What we’re most proud of, other than the progress of our patients, is the lasting relationship we build with our patients. Our connection doesn’t end when treatment does- we truly value the trust and bond formed throughout the process. Many of our patients stay in touch long after their care has ended, and seeing them continue to thrive is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
We want readers to know that our services truly go beyond what you’ll see listed on our website. While you’ll find the essentials such as evaluations and therapy treatments, we offer so much more. From dry needling and consulting services, to aging-in-place support and home evaluations, our approach is designed to meet each persons unique needs. Our capabilities are extensive, so even if you’re unsure whether we’re the right fit or if we’ve worked with your specific condition, we encourage you to reach out. Chances are, we can help and make a real difference. Soon, we’ll also be expending our offerings to include interior design services to further support comfort, function, and independence at home.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I was the kid who asked a thousand questions, always curious about how things worked but even more curious about people. I loved understanding what made others happy or how I could help them. That curiosity has never left me and continues to guide my work today.
