Hi Monica, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day looks like giving thanks to God & asking him to order my steps throughout my day while I also prepare breakfast for my one year old baby girl and listening to worship music so that I am grounded and ready to take on the day
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi I’m Monica Dorsey Owner of FloridasTopStylist. I specialize in Natural hair care, braids and faux locs. With a bachelor’s in psychology I not only provide hair services but I offer a safe space for women to just exist and be seen. Hair Therapy is what I’d like to call appointments. What makes me a unique client is that of course I provide quality services with efficiency and care, but I’m also punctual and reliable. I know how to mix professionalism the friendship which is what I feel all hair care providers can benefit from. I understand that hair is intimate and should be treated as such. We will laugh & we may even cry but all in all you will leave looking good as well as feeling good. As a new mom I’ve pivoted my business a lot realizing women take on the world often forgetting themselves, but in my chair your the one that’s cared for and poured into wether it’s deep conversation about your career, childhood, marriage etc or you can just sit in silence embracing a peaceful environment after a chaotic day either way I adjust. For now I feel I’ve mastered quality and now I’m working on psychological care for my clients in providing more solution based results for their personal life.As a service provider I realize that I have a direct influence and I want to be used correctly.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Back in 2020 when I was featured on Voyage Miami making six figures my answer would have been so different but fast forward to now my answer is Hustle Culture. I use to think I always had to be doing something, that if I wasn’t making money I was failing, I use to believe that wealth equated to peace and happiness but I learned over time that true peace and happiness is freedom of time, something hustle culture doesn’t allow. Being over worked over booked and always busy for me lead to anxiety burn outs and self neglect. I let that part of me go, the need to be in control, the constant worry of obtaining things that I didn’t need but wanted, the focus of working to buy things of no value that grants temporary peace.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of what people would think or say about me has held me back in the past. I learned that when you worry more about what society says is “right “ you neglect yourself and rob yourself the chance to grow into who your meant to be. The fear of making a mistake of failing has held me back in the past and now I realize that there is no such thing as a mistake or failing it’s only an opportunity to learn. Success comes from learning from your experiences and moving forward with the best solutions in my opinion. You are also more relatable and can help others after you have experienced difficulties and hardships. Makes you a better learner and teacher.

My customers would mostly miss the durability of my work, knowing that it will last , my styles are water friendly and truly protective. They would also miss our conversations & my professionalism
