We recently had the chance to connect with Owner Skincare by Amela spa-Master Esthetician Amela Coric and have shared our conversation below.
Amela, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I lose track of time when I’m dreaming. Often it happens in the simplest moments—driving with my favorite music playing, when the world feels like mine alone. That’s when I drift into thoughts of life, travel, food, and the beauty of new experiences. Those daydreams are my sanctuary, and they quietly fuel my creativity and passion in everything I do.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Amela, a licensed esthetician and founder of Skincare by Amela in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. My story began in Zagreb, Croatia, where I graduated from esthetics school in 2006. What started as a love for skincare quickly grew into a lifelong calling—one that has allowed me to spend the last 17+ years transforming not only skin, but also confidence and well-being.
What makes my brand unique is the way I combine European methods with the latest med-spa innovations. Treatments like Sculptural Face Lifting, Buccal Massage, Jet Plasma, HiFULDM and HydraFacial go beyond surface beauty—they release tension, improve circulation, and help clients feel radiant inside and out. My approach has always been about creating a holistic experience, one that balances visible results with deep relaxation.
Over the years, I’ve built long-lasting relationships with my clients, many of whom have been with me for more than a decade. That trust and connection inspire me every day. Beyond working one-on-one, I’m also passionate about education. I now host seminars where I teach estheticians the specialized techniques I’ve mastered, giving them the tools to grow their own practices and confidence.
For me, skincare is much more than a profession—it’s artistry, passion, and service. My mission is simple: to help people look and feel their best, while continuing to evolve, learn, and share my knowledge with the beauty community.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
The truth is, the people who taught me the most about work have been my clients. Every appointment over the past 17 years has been a lesson—about patience, trust, and the beauty of truly listening. When you see someone’s face relax under your hands or watch their confidence grow over time, you realize that the work is so much deeper than skin.
Of course, my mentors in Croatia gave me the foundation, and I’ve continued to learn through advanced education and training. But it’s my clients who pushed me to evolve, to perfect my techniques, and to never stop improving. They’ve been my greatest teachers, and I feel grateful every day that I get to do this work.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was definitely a time I almost gave up. Running your own business in the beauty industry isn’t always glamorous—there are slow seasons, financial pressures, and moments of self-doubt. I remember thinking that maybe this wasn’t going to work.
But what stopped me from walking away was my passion. Even on the hardest days, I would step into the treatment room, place my hands on a client’s face, and feel that spark. I’d see how much a single treatment could change the way someone looked and felt about themselves, and it reminded me why I started.
Instead of giving up, I doubled down. I invested in education, learned new techniques, and trusted that if I continued to grow, the right clients would find me. Looking back now, those struggles were the foundation of my success. They gave me resilience, courage, and the strength to build something truly unique.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what really matters to me is connection. Whether it’s with my clients, my team, my friends, or my family, I value deep, genuine relationships. They’d also tell you that I’m passionate about my work and about constantly learning and growing.
Beyond that, they know travel, new experiences, and exploring different cultures feed my soul. But at the heart of everything, they’d say what matters most to me is making people feel cared for, seen, and beautiful—inside and out. That’s the thread that ties together both my personal life and my work.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story people tell about me is one of passion, care, and connection. I want them to remember that I poured my heart into everything I did—whether it was a facial, a training session, or a simple conversation. I hope they recall the moments when I made someone feel confident, beautiful, and valued, and that those small acts of care added up to something meaningful.
I hope they see my work not just as a career, but as a calling—an art form that brought joy, healing, and confidence to others. And I hope they remember the energy I brought into every room: the curiosity, the dedication, and the belief that beauty and self-care are deeply intertwined with happiness and self-worth.
At the end of the day, I hope people tell a story of someone who loved what she did, who loved people fiercely, and who strived to leave the world a little brighter, one face and one heart at a time.
