Community Highlights: Meet Tara Tyson of Tyson Athletics LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Tyson.

Tara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
About Tyson Athletics
Tara Tyson, Owner of Tyson Athletics
Tara came to Florida in 1993 and since has never left but for vacation. Although she has traveled around the USA finding all the secluded hiking spots she always comes back to the peace of the countryside she calls home. She lives with her husband and 3 dogs. She enjoys going to the gym, golfing and adventuring with her husband in her spare time. Tara was apart of many sports growing up including Gymnastics, Soccer, Cheerleading, Dance and Track and field. She recently got back into running and has completed her first 5k in July.

She has been a passionate, honest, determined and integral part of the Massage Therapy and Wellness field since 2011. Graduating with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science she turned to the fitness industry to become a coach. Then added to her knowledge, becoming a Massage Therapist in 2017. Tara got into Massage to help those like herself from sports injuries as well as seeking preventive care. Her love of empowering people to understand their Physiology helps those to discover the power of Alternative methods in daily life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am so grateful for my husband being my rock along the way. With his support I was able to pursue my dreams without having to worry about financial, physical or mental stability. I can’t imagine the struggles I would have had to endure without his support. I have had to move to be closer to family, had to start over a couple times but I was always determined to make it happen and make an impact in the community wherever I ended up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Tyson Athletics LLC is a Professional Sports Massage Therapy practice and continuing education business working with fellow Licensed Massage Therapists Nationwide to gain knowledge in Sports Massage on-site, for injury care, prevention and maintenance through massage therapy. We also work directly with Athletes of all walks of life to provide hands on care on-site (at events), in-home, in-office, or at our business location in rural downtown Keystone Heights right outside of Jacksonville in clay county. We specialize in Sports Massage and work with athletes but also have skill sets in many massage modalities including Deep Tissue, NMT, Swedish and more. Sports Massage is a technique using advance skills. Sports Massage typically includes some variation of stretching.

I think what sets us apart from others is that I have first hand experience with sports so I just get it and able to work the trouble areas accordingly. I also have such a passion and drive that I’m always researching topics and staying up to date on the new techniques. I love learning and will never stop. That’s how I got into teaching. I want to help fellow therapists interested in helping athletes like myself to be more knowledgeable and skilled in a more specialize modality. I am an Approved Provider with NCBTMB which means I can teach nationwide.

I have written a book and course from scratch and now am proud that it is live on my website www.tysonathleticsllc.com. My courses, plus many to come, are made to teach fellow licensed massage therapists but I encourage everyone to take a look to understand what we do and how it can help. Everyone can benefit from something in my course. The digital course is worth 4 CEU’s towards your license and the Live course is 10 CEU’s towards LMT license renewals. I’m looking forward to creating more courses and traveling to teach nationwide in the near future.

I am most proud of my course but also how I am able to understand the human body and how it works so that I can actually help people in their daily life. I am also pretty proud that I am able to do so much of the work myself; from building and managing my own website, bookkeeping, advertising to graphic design and video editing, you name it I’ve got a part in it. I am the business and the business is me.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The biggest change will be incorporating more teaching into my practice and growing the brand. I plan to hire more therapists to take on more clientele as well and just see where it goes from there.
