Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Ingham.
Hi Nicole, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was lucky to grow up in a family that talked about money. My parents taught me about credit cards, opened me a Roth IRA at 18 and ingrained in me fundamentals that have served me my entire life: live below your means, always pay off your credit card debt, and set a goal for where you want to be next year. All of which are ingrained in my financial life coaching practice now. But, I didn’t grow up knowing the first thing about growth vehicles for the money I had saved. In fact, in my undergraduate and graduate programs, my finance and accounting classes were my least favorite; they just didn’t feel relevant to my life. By chance I landed a job at a great financial technology company in Jacksonville post graduating from my MBA program.
Working at that company was a pivotal point in my life because I started to understand why finance is relevant to everyone. I’m not someone who had a trust fund or was financially savy. I had to learn the hard way that my Roth IRA was an account and the money I was putting into it was just sitting in cash, you actually have to go in and invest it.. Fast forward to today, I’ve built a seven-figure investment portfolio. I always felt like I worked hard for my money, but by investing, I finally got to see my money working hard for me. That newfound awareness created a ripple effect in my life, leading to a confidence and sense of security I’d never had before.
I founded my company because I know firsthand what awareness of your finances can award you. And I want to give that to other people. My mission is to simplify personal finance and empower people to get curious about their money. My practice is rooted in helping clients align their finances with their goals. I want to help you figure out your financial life, so you can focus on what truly matters.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle I had to overcome in my business was getting started. For 10 years I knew I wanted to start a coaching business. I love empowering people, building them up to make them feel capable and able to step into their power is truly what I feel like I’m on this Earth to do. The amount of love and support I’ve received since starting has been overwhelming and leaves me excited each day to figure out how I can continue to show up and support my clients and community better.
As you know, we’re big fans of Nicole Ingham Financial Life Coaching. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
What I do is pretty simple at its core: I help people get curious about their money. I founded my company on the belief that personal finance doesn’t have to be complicated or intimidating. It’s rooted in finding alignment, so your money is serving your goals.
What makes my practice unique is I’m not a financial advisor or planner, I’m a financial life coach. For those that don’t know what a life coach is – think of why a pro athlete or singer works with a coach. They’re a person in your corner removing barriers and keeping you focused and clear on your goals. I focus on a few key areas where small changes have a big impact. First, we tackle your relationship with money. We dig into the limiting beliefs holding you back and work to rewire how you think about your personal finances.
Next, we create transparency into the flow of your money. We look at what’s coming in and where it’s going. Even exploring ways to increase your income—like negotiating a well earned raise. I love this part, it’s seriously so fun to see people step into their power.
The last part of my practice is all about demystifying how you can get your money to start working for you. I teach the fundamentals of investing and about growth vehicles you can leverage to grow the money you work so hard for. I want you to feel confident and in control, whether it’s understanding different accounts, assets, or resources for research. My goal is to help you get past that initial fear and start building wealth.
Most people think of personal finance as something serious, maybe even a little restricting, like being stuck on a strict budget. There can be a lot of guilt, shame and anxiety if your finances aren’t where you want them to be. My practice is all about curiosity and abundance, not scarcity and judgement. It’s not about telling you, “You can’t afford that latte.” It’s about empowering you to get to a place where you either can afford it with ease or you realize it’s not aligned with your goals, so you don’t want it anymore.
I work with a wide range of people from women who want to be able to retire in 20 years so they can take care of their future grandkids, but don’t know where to start, to high earners who are trying to figure out how stop feeling like they’re living paycheck to paycheck, to entrepreneurs trying to learn how to pay themselves first and meet their big goals.
