We recently had the chance to connect with Guerda Louissaint and have shared our conversation below.
Guerda, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
Getting and incapacitated. I spend my life, doing HIIT Training, and making healthier choices so I’m not confined to a nursing home or a wheelchair in 15 years. I want to be that elder woman with that spunk!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Guerda Louissaint, a proud Haitian American storyteller from Lil Haiti in South Florida. I’m an indie scriptwriter, director, producer, and content creator with a deep passion for film as a tool for healing and transformation. My journey began in 2014 when I wrote my first 50-page script—and from that moment, I knew storytelling was my calling.
Since then, I’ve immersed myself in the craft, collaborating with local filmmakers and sharpening my skills through writing and cinematography workshops. I’ve had the honor of participating in the 48 Hour Film Project in both 2019 and 2020, where our team won Best Cinematography—an unforgettable moment that fueled my creative fire.
In 2019, I wrote Through the Eyes of a Child, a powerful piece that explores deep cinema healing, childhood trauma, and how those early wounds echo through adulthood, parenthood, and romantic relationships. I believe in telling the stories that often go unheard—creating films that entertain while quietly educating, sparking reflection and social change.
This year, I’m producing three short films focused on mental health, family dynamics, and motherhood. Looking ahead, I’m preparing to shoot my 2nd feature film in 2026, and I’m actively building the team and resources to bring that vision to life.
My mission is simple but bold: to use film as a mirror, a voice, and a catalyst for world change—one story at a time.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds between people are often broken by betrayal, poor communication, or emotional neglect—when trust is lost, connection fades. But they can be restored through honest dialogue, empathy, accountability, and forgiveness. Healing takes time and effort, but with compassion and consistency, relationships can grow even stronger than before.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
As I step out of my 40s, I’ve been feeling the weight of time and the toll it takes. The energy it takes to be on set—the hustle, the long hours—can be exhausting, and I’m starting to question whether that part of the journey still fits me. While I’ll likely continue writing, I’m also embracing the quieter side of indie filmmaking. Opportunities may feel fewer for older creatives, and the “big break” still feels elusive. But I’ve found peace in telling meaningful stories on a smaller scale, and that, too, is a powerful place to be.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Being respectful to all people means recognizing the inherent dignity in every individual, regardless of background, status, or circumstance. It’s about listening with empathy, speaking with kindness, and showing up with integrity. When I say I strive to treat people better than I’d like to be treated, I mean going beyond basic decency offering grace, patience, and encouragement even when it’s not expected. In both my creative work and everyday life, I believe that how we treat others reflects our values and shapes the world we want to live in. Respect isn’t just a courtesy; it’s a commitment to uplifting others and creating spaces where everyone feels seen and valued.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in the comfort of my home, surrounded by music that moves me, enjoying a well-earned vacation, and sharing space with those who truly love and uplift me. It’s in those quiet, joy-filled moments that I feel grounded and whole.
